Definition: 意味
Unexpected, surprising
- Used to express that something is contrary to one’s expectations or predictions.
- It can convey a sense of surprise, often when reality differs from anticipation.
- Can be used as a な-adjective (e.g., 意外な結果 – an unexpected result).
- Can be used as an adverb with 「と」 (e.g., 意外と早い – unexpectedly fast).
- Often implies a discrepancy between what was thought/imagined and what actually occurred.
