- Refers to someone else’s wife.
- An honorific term used to respectfully address or refer to a married woman, typically not one’s own wife.
- Can also be used to refer to a married woman in general, particularly when addressing a polite stranger.
- Contrast with 妻 (tsuma) or 家内 (kanai) for one’s own wife.
