The kanji 画 originally depicted a brush drawing lines on a field or boundary. It combines 聿 (fude, writing brush) and 凵 (ukebako, a container or enclosure/boundary).

How to Write – Stroke Order

The kanji 画 consists of 8 strokes. Start with the top-left horizontal stroke, then the left vertical stroke with a hook. Next, draw the inner horizontal stroke, followed by the inner vertical stroke. Close the inner box with a final horizontal stroke. Then, for the bottom part, draw the left vertical stroke, followed by the horizontal stroke from left to right, and finally the last horizontal stroke, completing the character.
