- “あるいは” is a versatile Japanese word, primarily used to connect two or more alternative options,
- similar to “or” in English. It can link nouns, phrases, or even clauses.
- It is often used in more formal or written contexts compared to “または” (matawa) or “それとも” (sore tomo).
- Additionally, “あるいは” can also function as an adverb,
- expressing uncertainty or possibility, conveying the meaning of “perhaps” or “possibly.”
- In this usage, it suggests a likelihood rather than a definite statement.
