Definition: 意味
Leaving aside; setting aside; apart from; never mind
- This phrase indicates that the preceding item (A) is set aside or disregarded.
- It implies that the speaker wants to focus on something else (B) as more important or relevant.
- It can often be translated as “whether or not A, at any rate B” or “never mind A, B is more important”.
- The emphasis shifts to the statement made after はともかく, highlighting the main point.
- It can express indifference, downplaying the significance of A, or prioritizing B over A.
- Commonly used with nouns, noun phrases, or short clauses preceding はともかく.
